    90th Missile Wing

The Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce designed the Leadership Cheyenne program to promote a better understanding of the community, build and enhance leadership skills and develop a strong network of future community leaders.

Throughout the year, the class meets twice a month for lessons on the community of Cheyenne. Topics include health care, law enforcement, local government, education and the military. April 22 was military day

Each class learns about the military and how communities work together. Their lesson culminates in a tour of F.E. Warren and Wyoming National Guard installations. Lt. Col. Robert Lance, 90th Civil Engineer Squadron commander, is a member of the current class and organized this year’s base tour.

“The local community has a very strong relationship with the wing and is very supportive. This type of event helps educate and further strengthen that bond,” Lance said. “I hope the class members left the day with an understanding of the mission of F.E. Warren and how it relates to the community of Cheyenne.”

Daniela Vaughan, Cheyenne Animal Shelter employee and class participant, said she is amazed at how much Cheyenne and the base have impacted history, especially given the base’s role in the Spanish-American War and Cold War events, such as the Cuban Missile Crisis. Vaughan, a Wisconsin native, has lived here a year and has never lived in a city with a military installation.

“This has been the day of Leadership Cheyenne I’ve been most excited about,” she said. “I think there’s such respect in the community for the military.”
