Maj. Gen. William T. Collins relinquished command of 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Forces Reserve, to Brig. Gen. Bradley S. James at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, April 29, 2016.
As the Reserve aircraft wing of the Marine Corps, 4th MAW conducts air operations in support of the Fleet Marine Forces to include anti-air warfare, offensive air support, assault support, electronic warfare, aerial reconnaissance, control of aircraft and missiles, and as a collateral function, to participate as an integral component of Naval Aviation. 4th MAW units have been mobilized and provided support of the Global War on Terrorism from 2002 to present day.
“The best thing about being in command of the wing is to be around my Marines,” Collins said. “I’ve traveled extensively during the past four years and I got to immerse myself amongst our Marines and see what they do best, occasional little rudder steering when they need, and it’s been extremely rewarding.”
Collins is looking forward to his next mission at North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command, where he will serve as the advisor to the commander.
