    II Marine Expeditionary Force

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (May 3, 2016) - Marines deployed as part of the Western Pacific Unit Deployment Program will see a decrease in per diem allowances effective Apr. 15, 2016.

Currently, UDP members are supplied with Essential Unit Messing when it is determined that government messing is essential to training and readiness. While these members are entitled to per diem in a temporary duty status away from their permanent duty stations, the amount must be reduced when government quarters and messing are provided at no cost.

“Marines and sailors currently on Unit Deployment Program are receiving UDP per diem and, if married, family separation allowance,” said Col. Robin Gallant, II MEF Comptroller. “Both the FSA and the UDP per diem are paid to Marines promptly each payday in their regular pay check.

Since sailors are not paid via the Marine Corps Total Force System, sailors are paid their UDP per diem through travel settlements which are accomplished by the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton California Disbursing Office. Both the UDP per diem and the FSA payments represent an increase to Marines’ and sailors’ pay because they are away from their duty station.”

Marine Corps Forces Pacific reported that the average garrison duty percentage for a Western Pacific unit is 60%.

The incidental expense rate of $3.50, applicable for all days in a garrison duty status, has been brought down by that percentage to approximate the total per diem that would have been received for the garrison duty days over the span of the deployment.

Following the May 1st payday, the rate of $2.10 will be established for all WestPac deployed units, including Australia, all ground units, and Aviation Units in Iwakuni and Okinawa.
