YAVORIV, Ukraine – A change of command ceremony took place, May 25, at the International Peacekeeping and Security Center as the outgoing commander of the 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division Lt. Col Nathan Minami handed over command to Lt. Col. LaFran Marks.
A change of command ceremony is a long long-honored Army tradition that officially surrenders command authority from the outgoing commander to the successor.
Key to the ceremony is the passing of the unit’s colors. The colors are the commander’s symbol of authority representing his responsibilities to the organization.
Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine Commander, Col. Nick Ducich spoke at the ceremony reflecting on 3-15 Infantry’s rich military history and on their current mission as they provide security force assistance to enhance the ability of Ukrainian infantry battalions to conduct defensive operations.
“Since your arrival at the IPSC, this battalion has continually demonstrated adaptability and innovation that is synonymous with your distinctive unit lineage,” said Ducich.
As Minami relinquished command after 28 months, he gave his final remarks and said his farewells to Soldiers.
“To the Soldiers of 3-15 Infantry, you are an exceptional group. You continue to amaze me with your dedication to duty, discipline, physical toughness and tenacity. Your professionalism here in Ukraine has been phenomenal and you have excelled in regular ‘Can Do’ fashion,” said Minami.
