The Department of the Navy (DON) civilian employees were recognized for contributions that resulted in exceptional improvements in human resources during the DON Civilian Human Resources Community Awards for Excellence at the Washington Navy Yard on May 24, 2016.
“As most of you know, one of my favorite things about this job is the people- getting out and talking to all of you is always a highlight for me,” said Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Civilian Human Resources Tony TorresRamos during the ceremony. “When I have the opportunity to also recognize the incredible work that you all do- that is absolutely the best part of the job.”
The DON CHR Community Awards for Excellence program recognizes teams and individuals whose contributions have resulted in exceptional impact or improvement in the human resources community.
“That couldn’t be more true of our three awards today,” added TorresRamos before a crowded room of DON human resources civilians.
The awards were presented at two levels: command- and DON-wide. The following teams and individuals were selected for their accomplishments during the 2014 calendar year. Below is a synopsis of each of the winners and a list of team members.
DON-Wide Award Fiscal Year 2014
OCHR Philadelphia Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Center of Excellence (COE) Team received an award for their outstanding support to the DON community during the 2014 calendar year for establishing the ADR COE.
The Office of Civilian Human Resources Philadelphia ADR staff spent over eight months outlining a comprehensive strategic plan to establish the ADR COE, working collaboratively with DON senior leadership to develop and execute a vision for an effective, efficient agency-wide ADR operations structure designed to support a complex network of ADR personnel across the DON.
Command-Level Awards Fiscal Year 2014
Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Total Force Strategy and Management Division and (TFSMD) and OCHR Philadelphia Team received this Department of the Navy (DON) Civilian Human Resources Community Awards for Excellence (Command) award for their outstanding efforts during the 2014 calendar year.
Naval Air Systems Command TFSMD in partnership with OCHR Philadelphia made profound contributions in developing innovative tools, methods, and collaboration to meet and exceed NAVAIR’s substantial hiring goals.
DON-Wide Award Fiscal Year 2015
The Directors of Civilian Human Resources (DCHRs) in the DON faced tremendous challenges in 2015. Last year, the Department of the Navy took a $220-million-dollar mark due to under-execution in fiscal year 14. Operation Hiring Solutions was established to identify DON-wide solutions to hire and retain critical civilian talent in support of the warfighter. To date, the DON has successfully reached the end-strength goal established for FY15, as well as FY16, through hard work and collaboration among the offices of Manpower, Financial Management, Total Force, HROs and the OCHR. Without the dedication and support of the Major Claimants, the DON would not have had the ability to attain such an extraordinary goal.
“Folks- these three awards represent an enormous amount of work,” concluded TorresRamos after handing out the awards. “Everyone involved has had an impact and made our Department better in a measurable way. I am extremely proud of all of you and I thank you sincerely for your relentless pursuit of excellence.”
