Arkansas National Guard Brig. Gen. Gregory Bacon, Deputy Adjutant General visited Task Force Red Wolf May 25, 2016 during Exercise BEYOND THE HORIZON 2016 GUATEMALA.
During his visit, Bacon inspected the three clinics and two schools that the task force was building, he also had an opportunity to see what service members were doing to address the medical concerns of the Guatemalan people during a medical readiness training exercise.
However, more importantly Bacon was able to make connections with the people that the service members were helping. He passed out candy to children and posed for pictures. Moreover, where his influence was felt the most was through the conversations he had with the local people living in the areas around the task force’s construction projects.
“I really appreciate these Soldiers understanding,” said Bacon. “Not only are they good at the skills that they bring, which is being engineers building buildings and roads but, once they get on the ground their heart begins to show. They want to show the U.S. military and the National Guard at their best and they want to show the Guatemalan people their heart as well. These soldiers understand the real significance of what they are doing; they’re providing a much needed service to the people of Guatemala. The Soldiers are lifting the educational and medical opportunities of these people by building schools and clinics and making this country better.”
