ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada - Members of the Grenada Special Service Unit gained valuable experience conducting room-clearing exercises with members of the United States Army at Pearls Airport June 7 - 8.

The Grenada SSU is part of the Royal Grenada Police Force and is responsible for Grenada’s national security. The SSU is routinely involved in high-risk missions including building raids and executing arrest warrants.

“We are living in a real world,” said Sgt. Paterson Andrew of the Grenada SSU. “Grenada needs to be up to speed with other countries in the region.”

Members of the Florida Army National Guard led the two-day exercise.

“These exercises are important because it increases our relationship in the region and also it’s an opportunity to train others in skills we’re proficient in,” said Maj. Jason Hunt, the officer in charge of the ground tactical training team.

The training exercise was part of Tradewinds 2016. Tradewinds is a multi-national maritime security and disaster response exercise. Phase I is being hosted by Grenada from June 4 through June 14.
