It has been just over a month since the 364th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) deployed to Poland for Anakonda 16.
Anakonda 16 is a Polish-led exercise that supports European allied forces. The opportunity to join the effort was welcomed by the U.S. Army Reserve. Although the 364th ESC is not being evaluated in this simulated battle, the chance to practice their warfighting skills is greater than they might have had for a typical exercise because Anakonda 16 presents a real-world sustainment mission for the unit. With more than 35 active and Army Reserve subordinate units located in more than 14 different locations in Poland and Germany under their command and control, its nearly 200 Soldiers have been busy setting the stage for the maneuver forces.
Now, at the halfway mark between the beginning and end of the exercise, Soldiers in the 364th ESC have switched over much of their staff and sent one group of logisticians home and replaced them with another during their recent transition phase. One of those switchover Soldiers was Capt. Elizabeth Cochran of the 364th ESC Support Operations Office.
“One of the challenges of this exercise is equipment readiness and repair coordination,” Cochran said. One of Cochran’s responsibilities before she left, was to prepare her counterpart for the work he must do to maintain the momentum of the section. “We talked about reports we use to calculate and forecast commodities usage so that we can have parts and equipment ready when the units need it,” she said. Before she left Poland, the unit’s leaders commended Cochran and others for their work in the early stages of the exercise.
The unit’s Chief of Staff, Col. David Hammons said to both groups, “I’m proud of you. We are going to have a smooth handoff where the follow-on Soldiers will pick up where we left off.”
Anakonda 16 is scheduled to conclude June 17 after an official closing ceremony in Warsaw.
