Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 12 bid farewell to their outgoing commanding officer and welcomed a new commander during a change of command ceremony at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, June 10, 2016.
Lt. Col. Kolter R. Miller relinquished his duties as MALS-12 commanding officer to Lt. Col. John A. Fallon, MALS-12 executive officer, after serving as squadron commander for two years.
In June 2014, Miller assumed his first command position as the MALS-12 commanding officer and will soon continue his longstanding career at the National Defense University to further his education at the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy.
“It’s bittersweet leaving the squadron, but I believe I did the things I set out to do to prepare them to progress and move up to the next level,” said Miller. “Lt. Col. Fallon is well-qualified to be in charge and improve upon anything that I have done.”
Since July 2013, Fallon has served as the executive officer and was selected to take command of the squadron in July 2015.
Fallon expressed his gratitude to the Marines, command and families, and stated his confidence in leading the squadron stems from the dedicated mentorship Miller provided.
“After serving as executive officer of this squadron for three years, I feel well prepared to take command,” said Fallon. “I’m excited . . . and it will be hard to lead the Marines after having such a great leader, but I’m looking forward to it.”
