FORT HUNTER LIGGETT, Calif., June 15, 2016 – U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers from 341st Military Police Company, Mountain View, California, augmented by two other military police units, executed a cordon and search mission as part of Combat Support Training Exercise (CSTX) 91-16-02, at Fort Hunter Liggett,California, June 15, 2016.

“This kind of training provides one with the hands on experience that doesn’t get fully implemented at the individual duty training locations,” said Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Clayton, Platoon Sergeant, 422nd MP Co., Bakersfield, California.

As the largest U.S. Army Reserve training exercise, CSTX 91-16-02 provides Soldiers with unique opportunities to sharpen their technical and tactical skills in combat-like conditions.
“Our mission here is simple: We provide law and order, combat security, and personal security detachments,” Clayton added. “This annual training reinforces what we have been doing at our monthly drills, but at the run, not walk or crawl phase,” added Sgt. Cory Morse, 422nd MP Co., Bakersfield, California. “I plan to teach my team basic quick reactionary force tactics needed for overseas missions.”

U.S. Army Reserve military police Soldiers perform the five major functions of the military police corps both at home and abroad: Police intelligence operations; interment settlement; area security; law and order; maneuver and mobility support.

“Each mission is a training opportunity and we are always going in with the goal of accomplishing it without receiving any injuries or having anyone be killed in action,” said Cpl. Alex Nord, 324th MP Co., Fresno, California.

The CSTX 91-16-02 presents many challenging missions for these MPs and they will encounter multiple training scenarios over the course of their two-week annual training. Observer Coach Trainers continually monitor the action, and provide crucial feedback that the units can use to become more proficient in their mission essential tasks.
