ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. – After almost a week of competition, the 20th CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives) Command, held their 2016 Best Warrior Competition Awards and Recognition Ceremony at the Stark Recreation Center in Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland on June 23.
During the five-day competition, seven participants representing the 71st Ordnance Group (EOD), 52nd Ordnance Group (EOD) and the 48th Chemical Brigade, were evaluated in various areas such as soldiering skills, physical fitness, weapons qualification and combatives.
“I hope you had at least half as much fun as I did during this competition,” Command Sgt. Maj. Kenneth Graham, 20th CBRNE Command sergeant major, said to the competitors. “I and many others leaders observed your character, competence and commitment to our Army profession and we witness your amazing ability to dig deep and pull every last ounce of strength and endurance to avert failure. It was inspiring to all who bore witness.”
Although leaders expressed they were all winners for just completing the competition, a victor had to be selected in order to advance to the next level for both the Soldier and the Non-Commissioned Officer categories.
The winners were Sgt. Jacob Meinders for the NCOs and Spc. Kyle O’Day for the Soldiers, and they represented the 52nd Ordnance Group (EOD). They both received several trophies and awards including an Army Commendation Medal.
