GALVESTON, Texas (June 29, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded a contract in the amount of $6,147,750 to Goodloe Marine Inc., for pipeline dredging of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW), Texas, Channel to Victoria.
The contractor is required to remove 1.3 million cubic yards of material located along the lower and middle reached of the GIWW, Channel to Victoria beginning July 2016 with an estimated completion date of December 2016.
“This contract will remove dredged material to provide an adequate depth for vessels navigating the channel,” said Steven Howard, operations manager with the USACE Galveston District’s Navigation Branch. “All dredged material will be placed in confined placement areas located along the channel.”
The GIWW was established to provide commercial navigation, support for and encouragement of interstate commerce, safe harbor for shipping from inclement weather and protection for shipping from wartime enemy attack and remains an essential component of the state’s and nation’s transportation network.
