AL ASAD AIR BASE, Iraq – Air Force Maj. Gen. Scott A. Kindsvater, the deputy commander of operations and intelligence for Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve, visited Al Asad Air Base, Iraq, June 6, 2016, to evaluate the progress toward building the foundation for future operations.
During his visit he also took the opportunity to personally express his appreciation to servicemembers for their hard work and contributions to that progress.
“It’s a big deal for me to get out and get eyes on the enterprise,” said Kindsvater.
Kindsvater toured the base and met with Airmen, Soldiers, Marines, and civilian contractors. Each branch has a unique role and briefed the general as he visited their work areas.
“No one really pays attention to our unit,” said Pfc. Tania Resgonia, a technician with the 422nd Expeditionary Signal Battalion, of the Nevada Army National Guard. “Having them [Kindsvater and company] come out here and tell us how everyone will benefit from us running cable made us feel really good about ourselves.”
Leadership from Task Force Al Asad also provided the general with their infrastructure and sustainment priorities that support the expansion of future capabilities at air base.
“We are training the Coalition and building partnership capacity to fight Da’esh,” said Kindsvater, using another term to refer to ISIS. “We have a lot of great Soldiers, Airmen, and Marines out here, including Coalition members, working long, long hours to make that happen.”
Al Asad Air Base is an Iraqi armed forces and U.S. base located in the western Iraq province of Al Anbar. The base is home for Task Force Al Asad, which was established to support CJTF-OIR. It is made up of all four branches of the armed forces and Coalition partners, including the Royal Danish Army.
