NOVO SELO, Bulgaria-The 841st Engineer Battalion, U.S. Army Reserve will be working on three major infrastructure projects on June 30, 2016 during Operation Resolute Castle 16 (RC 16). RC 16 is multi-national, U.S Army Europe-led, construction operation that spans from constructing roadways to infrastructure improvements.
The 841st Eng. Bn. will head up three major projects for the Novo Selo Training Area (NSTA) training sites with vertical (construct, maintain and build infrastructure) and horizontal (repair, maintain and build roads) construction teams.
The first project consists of improvements to tank maneuver lanes 2,000 meters (approx. 1.2miles) long by improving road surface conditions with the use of articulated concrete block (ACB) matte. ACB are flat concrete blocks connected by rope-like cables which allows each individual block to be flexible to conform to the terrain.
The second construction project is for an Ammunition Holding Area (AHA); forming berms out of 45,000 cubic yards of gravel and topsoil, and constructing a 250 meter (820ft) gravel entrance to the AHA which will be able to hold larger amounts of training ammunition then before.
The third and final project will consist of improving the drainage conditions around the NSTA training site by installing culverts and concrete headwalls to alleviate flooding issues.
