Hundreds of troops to conduct live-fire exercise in Eastern Europe

NOVO SELO TRAINING AREA, Bulgaria (July 8, 2016)– Over 600 troops from nine NATO and partner nations will come together for a multi-national, live-fire exercise aimed to strengthen regional defense.
Forces from Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Slovenia, Moldova, Serbia, Hungary, Great Britain and U.S. Marines and sailors of the Combined Arms Company and Black Sea Rotational Force are scheduled to participate in Platinum Lion 16-4 beginning July 11, 2016.

“The number of countries participating in this exercise demonstrates that we are committed to working together, learning from each other, and strengthening our partnerships in order to deter potential threats in the future,” said Capt. Kirk Steinhorst, the Combined Arms Company commander.

The Bulgaria-based Combined Arms Company arrived in August 2015 to support NATO allies and partners in the region and to bolster multi-national exercises with mechanized capabilities. The CAC is a supplemental unit to the Black Sea Rotational Force, a semi-annual rotation of Marines and Sailors based in Romania to respond to a broad range of military operations in the U.S. European Command area of responsibility.
