ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. – Brig. Gen. William E. King IV, commander of the 20th Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) Command, made his first visit to Redstone Arsenal (RSA) late June to witness the work and support that CBRNE Analytical and Remediation Activity-West personnel and Soldiers from 110th Chemical Battalion are providing to the installation, the Corps of Engineers, and NASA.
King spoke to all employees and Soldiers after their daily safety brief and was able to walk the actual remediation site on Marshall Space Flight Center-003 (MSFC-003) prior to operations. CARA-West's mission at MSFC-003 and other sites on RSA is to support remediation efforts of Recovered Chemical Warfare Material that is expected to take approximately 25 years or more.
CARA-West plays a critical role at Team Redstone to assist in the clearing of areas containing suspect buried chemical munitions so NASA can expand testing areas and ranges for their Space Launch System (SLS) rockets for future Mars launches.
This was Brigadier General King's first visit to Redstone Arsenal in his busy schedule and he was able to make time to present some well-deserved awards to CARA Employees for their efforts. He was also able to meet the new installation Commander, COL Thomas Holliday, as well as the RSA Environmental Office, and Corps of Engineer Project Managers.
