Lt. Col. David Hawkins, on behalf of the 76th Operations Readiness Command in Salt Lake City, Utah, is conducting the presentation that is scheduled to run from today until Thursday evening. State governments call upon state Army National Guard units to be first responders, according to Hawkins. The course will train the attendees on how to respond to support requests for civil authorities during times of crisis.
The attendees are comprised of over fifty battalion and company commanders and senior staff from Army Reserve units in over a dozen states and territories including Puerto Rico. Judge Advocate General personnel are also present to contribute on the legal perspective of co-mingling federal military and state assets together.
The major topics to be covered are media response, reporting, mission assessment, policies and regulations and key personnel.
