    63rd Readiness Division

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif – The 63rd Regional Support Command welcomed new Headquarters and Headquarters Company commander Lt. Col. Michael Stewart, following a change of command ceremony at the Armed Forces Reserve Center, Mountain View, Calif., July 13.

Stewart, a Denver native, replaced outgoing commander Maj. Derrick Carter, from Samson, Ala., who had been in command of HHC since May 2014.

Overseeing the ceremony was Maj. Gen. Nick Tooliatos, commanding general, 63rd RSC, who praised Carter for his contributions to the 63rd RSC during his tenure in command.

“We ask a lot of our HHC commander … Major Carter has done an excellent job over the last two years,” said Tooliatos. “I’m proud of him and his accomplishments and I know he’ll go on to do great things at the 79th Sustainment Command.”

During his speech Carter said he was proud of the way the unit came together during moments of triumph and tragedy.

“If someone was lacking in one area, automatically someone else stood up,” said Carter. “That’s the hallmark of a strong family and a strong unit.”

Carter thanked Tooliatos for allowing him the chance to lead the company, noting it was his first time in command.

“I’m a late bloomer when it comes to command and this was my first command, but (the commanding general) took a leap of faith in me,” he said. “I tried to leave things better than when I found them and I thank you for the opportunity.”

Stewart remarked what an honor and a privilege it is to be chosen to lead Soldiers of the 63rd RSC .

“You represent one percent of this nation that is willing to stand up and defend it, so I honor each and every one of you,” said Stewart. “I’m a man of competition … and I challenge you to take one step forward, one step stronger to lead and set the example of all the units under the 63rd.”

“If we can’t stand and be strong and be an example, how is the rest of the command going to follow us and go forth and fight our nations battles?” he continued. “As we come into this together, let’s be the best we can be … to be one unit, one nation under God and serve our country to the best of our ability.”
