MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CAMP PENDLETON, Calif., (July 21, 2016) – Marines, their families, and guests gathered on the flightline at Hangar Two aboard Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton, California, to witness an Assumption of Command and Posting of Detachment ceremony for Marine Aircraft Group 41 Detachment Alpha, 4th Marine Air Wing, July 21.
The ceremony featured music from the Third Marine Aircraft Wing Band, and distinguished guests including Brig. Gen. Bradley S.James. The highlight of the ceremony was the uncasing of the unit’s colors, which officially marked the transition from Site Support Camp Pendleton to MAG-41 Detachment Alpha. The unit was reactivated as of July 1 after being deactivated in March of 2008.
Lt. Col. Daniel T. Smith assumed command of the newly activated unit, while Sgt.Maj. Dallas Miller was posted as the detachment sergeant major.
“We have an amazing team to be starting off this unit with. When I look at Sgt. Maj. Miller, and when I look at the Marines standing behind me, I know we have the right team for the job,” said Smith.
The unit will provide vital site support for Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 775, Marine Aircraft Group 41, 4th Marine Air Wing, when the squadron is reactivated in October. HMLA-775 is being reactivated after being deactivated in September of 2008 after two tours to Iraq.
