Lt. Col. Taylor P. White assumed command of Marine Wing Support Squadron 274, Marine Aircraft Group 29, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, from Lt. Col. John P. Flynn, during a change of command ceremony July 29 at the Lanham Field Complex aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point.
The change of command ceremony is a tradition that symbolizes the passing of authority from the outgoing commander to the incoming commanding officer. The passing of the unit flag – commonly known as the unit colors – from one to the next, represents, to the men and women who serve in that command, the continuity of the commander’s authority.
MWSS-274’s “Ironmen” have a legacy of “Aeternus Adjuvo,” which means Eternal Support. For the past 30 years, the Ironmen have achieved excellence while providing aviation ground support both at home and abroad, in peace and in war.
Prior to this assignment, White served as commanding officer of Combat Engineer Instruction Company, Marine Corps Engineer School, Training Command.
“I can’t imagine being a part of a better unit,” said White. “I will do my best every day to maintain this squadron,” he promised.
Flynn, who served as the commanding officer since November 6, 2014, offered these parting words to the Marines, “It is all about the people, and people are priceless.”
Flynn further stated, “I have been privileged to have served with these Marines and Sailors.”
Flynn’s next assignment is with Marine Corps University’s blended seminar program at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
