PENSACOLA, Fla. – Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) recently announced its 2016 third quarter Instructors of the Quarter and Sailor of the Quarter.
CIWT selected Cryptologic Technician (Collection) (CTR) 2nd Class Ryan Trevillyan, assigned to CIWT Detachment (Det.) Fort Gordon, as Junior Instructor of the Quarter; Cryptologic Technician (Technical) (CTT) 1st Class Robert Elliott, assigned to CIWT Site Jacksonville, as Instructor of the Quarter; Chief Cryptologic Technician (Interpretative) (CTI) Kristina Koch, assigned to CIWT Det. Fort Gordon, as Senior Instructor of the Quarter; and Cryptologic Technician (Collection) 1st Class Collin Muldowney, assigned to CIWT Site Yokosuka, as Sailor of the Quarter.
“The competition was extremely close with a very slim margin between first and last place,” said CIWT Command Master Chief Michael Bates. “I'm truly proud of what our Sailors are doing throughout the domain.”
Trevillyan serves as the Waterfront Training Continuum lead instructor at Fort Gordon. In 2016, he led five instructors in providing 160 hours of course instruction, 73 of which were personally delivered, resulting in an overall student grade point average of 97 percent. Trevillyan also served as treasurer of the White Hats Association and as public affairs officer for CIWT Det. Fort Gordon.
“As an instructor, my strength has always been my approachable attitude,” said Trevillyan. “I always try to put students at ease in order to focus on the instruction. Both in and out of class I focus on keeping the class professional and disciplined.”
Chief Warrant Officer 4 Michael Lester, the officer-in-charge of CIWT Det. Fort Gordon, praised Trevillyan as a recognized subject matter expert within the CTR community who brings real-world experience to each lesson and ensures each student fully comprehends the information being presented.
Elliott serves as the lead instructor for the CTT course curriculum at Jacksonville, managing eight of nine CTT courses. Throughout 2016, Elliott delivered 372 hours of course instruction for 12 classes with a combined total of 79 students. His students maintained a 93 percent GPA and a 100 percent graduation rate.
Elliott also serves as CIWT Site Jacksonville’s command career counselor and volunteers as a classroom assistant for a local elementary school, assisting with developing reading skills and supervising classroom activities.
“Petty Officer Elliott is a talented professional and knowledgeable instructor who is highly motivated to take on new challenges and lead tomorrow’s Navy,” said Chief Cryptologic Technician (Collection) Rebecca Page, leading chief petty officer for CIWT Site Jacksonville. “His knowledge and natural persona allow him to capture and maintain his students’ attention to effectively train them. His expertise on both shipboard and airborne platforms is the solid foundation that enables him to provide the most valuable training to the fleet.”
Koch instructs students in the Arabic Apprentice Cryptologic Language Program. In 2016, she delivered 151 hours of instruction to seven Sailors with a 100 percent graduation rate and a cumulative class average of 96.4 percent.
Additionally, Koch collaborated with her team of instructors to revise the Introduction to Operational Cryptology (IOC) course, eliminating outdated material and consolidating lessons to create a more effective overall course that now serves as an enterprise-wide model for IOC.
Along with her instructor duties, Koch also serves as a command fitness leader, command training officer, senior watch officer, and co-chair of the fiscal year 2017 CPO 365 program.
“Chief Petty Officer Koch is an engaging instructor and energetic leader,” said Lester. “Her impact is felt throughout the detachment, not just on the podium.”
Muldowney serves as the course supervisor for both Afloat Systems Training and Ship’s Signal Exploitation Space Level I and II, and during the third quarter, he led four instructors in the completion of 360 hours of instruction to 48 Forward Deployed Naval Force Sailors with a 94 percent average score and a 100 percent graduation rate.
Muldowney is also CIWT Site Yokosuka’s command fitness leader, command community coordinator, and vice president of his command’s petty officer association.
"Petty Officer Muldowney is an active and vocal member within the training center, always providing insight to any situation regarding instruction or CTR rating information,” said Chief Warrant Officer 4 Robert Long, CIWT Site Yokosuka’s director. “His willingness to take on any task, no matter the difficulty, has made him a vital member within the command and always produces outstanding results.
His steadfast commitment to the Navy and the training center’s mission is worthy of recognition."
