During a status of the force brief, Young highlighted some encouraging changes during his tenure as commander.
“We just recently completed a manpower review,” said Young. “We looked at 123 NOSCs and rebalanced. Every NOSC now has a minimum of ten staff members. Every NOSC is going to have an Information System Technician. Every NOSC over 150 people will have a Navy Career Counselor.”
Young also focused on customer service stating that while customer service at NOSCs continues to improve, reservists are also responsible for efficiency. “I want every NOSC to continue to improve customer service, but this goes both ways. When the NOSC asks you for paperwork, you need to get it to them.”
Additionally, Young announced that the Defense Travel System (DTS) is piloting acceptance of back-to-back orders. This change is scheduled to be online by September 2016.
Young thanked reservists. “I could not do what you do. I could not be a drilling reservist. Less than one percent in this country serve, and even less than that are reserve. Balancing what you are doing with drilling, your civilian job, and your family…I could not do that. I want to thank you for what you do.”
Young also visited the Coastal Riverine Squadron One and the Undersea Rescue Command. “I know the Undersea Rescue Command mission is very important. I know they have a high percentage of reservists. I want them to know how important what they do is, and that we at the senior leadership level see the fruits of their labor. It is an important mission, and it is zero fail.”
