167th Airlift Wing, West Virginia Air National Guard

SFS personnel completed weapons qualifications training as well as field training to include fire team movement and tactical squad movement.
Twenty-eight security forces personnel deployed to the Center for National Response, also known as the Tunnel, in southern W.Va., June 12-16, to complete weapon qualification on the M240B and M249 machineguns as part of their annual training.
Additionally, five days of home station training was conducted prior to a field training exercise June 20-24, in Gerrardstown, W.Va.
Forty airmen from the wing set up camp at the base of North Mountain. Ten of them provided support for the training event while the other thirty airmen practiced numerous skill sets such as land navigation, voice and visual communication techniques, direct and indirect fire reaction, patrol and self-aid and buddy care.
“We got to do a lot of team building, something we don’t often get to do,” said Master Sgt. John Phillips, 167th SFS combat arms noncommissioned officer in charge and coordinator of the training event. “Overall, it went really well and I think everyone got a lot of out of it,” he said.
