SINGAPORE (Aug 8, 2016) – Navy Region Center Singapore (NRCS), welcomed Sailors and Marines from the USS Boxer (LHD-4) during a port visit to Singapore, Jul. 30 – Aug. 3, 2016.

As they make their way home from a 5th Fleet deployment, the crew and Marines embarked aboard the amphibious assault ship took advantage of the various services and facilities Navy Region Center Singapore offers. For the installation’s leadership, this was an opportunity to support the Fleet during a much-needed rest and relaxation period.

“Five-star service and facilities is what we are all about,” said Capt. Scott Murdock, NRCS Commanding Officer. “The Sailors and Marines of the Boxer have earned a quality port visit and our team takes great pride in providing that to them.”

During the Boxer’s visit, NRCS’s supporting departments such as Morale Welfare and Recreation, the Navy Exchange, and Navy Federal Credit Union, extended their service hours to support the Fleet. By the end of the five-day period, the Terror Club saw over $25,000 in profits. However, it was more than just profits for the installation; for the Sailors and Marines, it was about having surroundings similar to being back home in the United States.

“This visit was a great opportunity to get a taste of American flavor,” said Culinary Specialist Seaman Micah Kranstoverrolfe, Supply Dept., USS Boxer (LHD-4). “The best thing about being here is having access to free Wi-Fi so we can communicate with friends and family back home.”

Additionally, the Sailors and Marines found some quiet time at the installation’s Café Lah Community Center, a charming coffee shop offering espresso coffees, sandwiches and free Wi-Fi. Here, the service members enjoyed comfortable seating and a place to unwind. The Navy Exchange also attracted the Sailors and Marines to its doors over the five-day port call, and it saw approximately $112,000.00 in proceeds. According to Shelly Albright, NEX Singapore Branch Exchange Manager, their service efforts were well-delivered.

“It was great to be able to provide direct support to the Boxer Sailors and Marines because our mission is about providing quality goods and premier customer service,” Albright said. “Our staff has a great time doing what they do best, and that’s supporting the Navy and its quality of life programs.”

Besides providing recreational services, the region also played a key role in unit readiness by providing the Sailors and Marines needed administrative services.

“With an unforeseen loss of the USS Boxer’s Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System, our customer service desk stepped up and issued 104 Common Access Cards and reset 20 Personnel Identification Numbers,” said CWO4 Milton Lewis, disbursing officer, NRCS. “All of this is important as it supports command readiness and unit morale.”

As the Sailors from the USS Boxer (LHD-4) return home from deployment, the Navy Region Center Singapore team will continue to fulfill their mission of providing quality service and facilities for the fleet, fighter, and family.
