Security Transition Command – Afghanistan
KABUL, Afghanistan – Air Force Brig. Gen. Jay Lindell, Combined Air Power Transition Force commanding general, was promoted to major general during a ceremony, June 20, at Camp Eggers.
Lindell assumed his current position in October 2007. He was recognized for his part in the Afghan National Army Air Corps' progress over the past eight months.
Army Maj. Gen. Robert Cone, Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan commanding general, spoke at the ceremony about the Afghan Air Corps' improvements.
"Today there is an emerging capability that the Afghans have with their Air Corps getting troops into the fight," Cone said. "It shows that we have an airman in charge that knows the business inside and out."
During Lindell's tenure, the ANAAC has increased its force by doubling its aircraft arsenal and the number of combat and mission flights. Its fleet will continue to increase with deliveries of additional attack and airlift aircraft in the next year.
Cone and Air Force Maj. Jeannine Ryder, CAPTF executive officer, pinned on Lindell's second star.
Prior to his current assignment, Lindell was the commandant, Air Command and Staff College, Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala.
Lindell hails from Russell, Pa., and received a commission as a second lieutenant from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1978. He is a command pilot with more than 4,000 flying hours, primarily in the F-111 and F-16 aircraft. Throughout his career, Lindell has served in operational assignments in the United States, Germany, England and South Korea.
