    211th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment

U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers with the 301st Military Police Company, Puerto Rico, conducted base security operations during a combat support training exercise at Fort McCoy, Aug. 19, 2016.

The exercise helped prepare the 301st on skills needed before their scheduled deployment to Guantanamo Bay in spring 2017.

Training focused on four areas of base security – quick reaction force teams, theater detention facility perimeter security, base perimeter security and the entry control points, said Sgt. 1st Class Marvin Bueno, 301st operations sergeant.

“We have Soldiers right out of basic, young and new to the unit,” said Bueno. “They need to know that security operations is just one aspect of being an MP, but vital to keep Soldiers and detainees safe.”

Pfc. David Martinez, a 301st military policeman and San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico native, said, “I am very appreciative of the training [the leaders] have taught us,” said Martinez. “Cross training in this environment is great, and makes me feel better about doing my work as an MP.”

Bueno said the MP’s communication and camaraderie have increased since the start of the exercise, and is confident the 301st will do well in future missions.
