WASHINGTON -- Teams from Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling battled it out for the Commander’s Cup during Sports Day May 20 at Giesboro Park.
Attendees enjoyed a rare sunny May day for the competition.
“Sports Day has been great,” said Coast Guard Seaman Kyle Swanney. “Very good competition, but everyone has been respectful. It has been a great time.”
The teams competed in several events during the day including, kickball, volleyball, Humvee push, tug-of-war and more.
As the day wore on, two teams vied for the title.
The Coast Guard challenged defending champion White House Communications Agency in a grueling day of events.
“We’re in it to win it,” said Swanney, after the kickball final.
With numbers on their side, WHCA narrowly held off the Coast Guard, 175-160, taking the title for the fourth year in a row.
“It came down to the wire,” said Mike Perry, event coordinator and assistant fitness center director. “It was really fun to see White House Communication and the Coast Guard battle it out. It was a fun day and it was very competitive.”
As part of the day’s festivities participants enjoyed a free lunch from the USO.
The annual event was organized and ran by the base Warfighter & Family Readiness.
