“He is the first and only warrant officer in the entire Army National Guard and United States Reserves to attend and graduate from the Command and General Staff Officer Course as a warrant officer,” said Chief Warrant Officer 5 Bobby Tanksley, command chief warrant officer of the Mississippi Army National Guard. “There are other warrant officers that attended the course as an officer and later converted to warrant officer, but Lindsey did it as a warrant officer.”
The CGSOC, also known as the 44-week Intermediate Level Education (ILE) course, is designed to educate and develop field-grade officers for Army full spectrum joint, interagency and multinational operations.
Lindsey said he became aware of the historical significance while attending the course, but never really thought about it.
“I’m just a product of a great opportunity that was given to me,” said Lindsey, who is the property book officer for the Mississippi Army National Guard 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team. “Warrant officers are defined with the word ‘adaptive’ and this course has demanded that. I am indeed a better warrant officer because of it.”
“My phase two United States Army Reserve training battalion motto has echoed within me throughout the time of CGSOC and it says, ‘Iron Sharpens Iron.’ The same motto is a great reflection of my experience and can be used to describe the connection with warrant officers, officer-grade commissioned officers and vice versa,” said Lindsey.
Through determination and resilience, Lindsey pushed through obstacles that might have prevented him from completing the course.
“Overall, this adventure has been an extremely challenging and rewarding commitment,” said Lindsey. “The course tested my tenacity, but has been a perception-changing experience. I am extremely thankful for the opportunity and trust from the Mississippi Army National Guard, National Guard Bureau, the United States Army Reserves, and the Command and General Staff Officer Course instructors for the opportunities given to me and to be able to participate in this fellowship.”
“I highly recommend that they put into play a fellowship program each training year, allowing a select quota of warrant officers to attend the Command and General Staff Officer Course,” said Lindsey.
