EASTOVER, S.C. – The 4-118th Combined Arms Battalion (CAB) held a change of command ceremony at McCrady Training Center, Sept. 11, 2016 to recognize the outgoing commander and welcome the incoming commander.
Lt. Col. Robin B. Stilwell relinquished command to Lt. Col. Joseph Bulwinkle. Maj. Gen. Gregory W. Batts, Assistant Adjutant General of South Carolina, and Col. Jeffrey A. Jones, 218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade (MEB) commander, presided over the ceremony.
Stilwell assumed command of the 4-118th CAB upon returning from a deployment with the 218th MEB to Kosovo in support of Operation Joint Guardian in 2013, where he served as Chief of Staff. Having served as commander of Charlie Company, 4-118th CAB, Stilwell is no stranger to the vast potential of the Combined Arms Battalion.
“I want to thank the Soldiers of this battalion for their dedication to duty and commitment to the mission,” said Stilwell. “I spent the majority of my career in this battalion, it was a remarkable experience.”
Stilwell will continue to continue to serve the South Carolina Army National Guard as he transitions to the 678th Air Defense Artillery Brigade.
Bulwinkle, who currently serves as the Deputy G3 for the South Carolina National Guard fulltime, began his career as an enlisted Infantryman assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 118th Infantry Regiment. After receiving his commission in 1996 from the Palmetto Military Academy, Bulwinkle continued to serve in the 1-118th In. Reg. In 2007, Bulwinkle deployed to Afghanistan assigned as the commander of Alpha Company as part of Task Force Phoenix.
“I am just happy to be back home,” said Bulwinkle. “I look forward to serving the Soldiers of this battalion again.”
