    U.S. Army Garrison - Japan

CAMP ZAMA, Japan (Sept. 28, 2016) — U.S. Army Garrison Japan held a change of responsibility ceremony Sept. 26 at Camp Zama Yano Field for Command Sgt. Maj. Rosalba Dumont-Carrion, USAG Japan‘s outgoing command sergeant major, and Command Sgt. Maj. Will Holland, the new command sergeant major.

Holland assumed responsibility from Dumont-Carrion, who has served in the position since October 2014.

In front of Soldiers, Japan Ground Self-defense Force members, community members, and other guests, Col. William B. Johnson, commander of USAG Japan, praised Dumont-Carrion for “providing a voice of those who needed to be heard and the commitment to see the Garrison through a period of nearly constant challenge and change.”

Johnson told the audience how Dumont-Carrion sought out areas that needed change and worked tirelessly to improve programs.

“Her courage to share her personal story and inspire the next generation of women who will lead our Army, is nothing short of inspirational,” he said.

Expressing gratitude for everyone from her family, the Soldiers, the color guard, U.S. Army Japan band to the JGSDF members and others attending the ceremony, Dumont-Carrion said she would not have been successful during her tenure without the support of the leadership and Camp Zama community.

“I have had the opportunity to work with many Soldiers, Families, Civilians, contractors and Local Nationals Employees in my 26 years in service but I have so much pride to know that no one can top the Soldiers and civilians assigned to Japan,” she said.

Dumont-Carrion’s next assignment will be with the Medical Command Equal Opportunity Advisor, Fort Sam Houston, TX.

Holland, who served as command sergeant major for the Indianapolis Recruiting Battalion before transitioning to USAG Japan, said he would like to continue the great relationship the Garrison already has with the community and the JGSDF, and “hopefully make it even better.”

“My philosophy is simple, just do your best every day. You know regardless we’re not all stellar everyday but whatever your best is that day, that’s what I’d like everybody to give” said Holland.
