Story by Staff Sgt. Emerson Nunez

    48th Fighter Wing

In Spain, maintenance Airmen ensure weapons loaded on the 494th Fighter Squadron's F-15E Strike Eagles are working properly for each and every air crew supporting NATO Tactical Leadership Programme 16-3.

"We load the bombs and take care of the weapons systems to ensure the pilot can use all of the armaments which may be needed for the mission," said Tech. Sgt. James Conklin, 48th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron weapons expeditor.

Aircraft armament specialists are responsible for ensuring all munitions are up to their standards from the moment they are received from the 48th Munitions Squadron. The specialists perform scheduled inspections and work with other maintainers to ensure the Strike Eagles are ready for duty.

"Our main mission here is to make sure our equipment stays functional, to ensure the pilots get their proper training," said Airman 1st Class Andrew Smith, 48th AMXS aircraft armament system technician. "Keeping the training realistic for the pilots is important, and we make sure they are able to train with reliable assets."

From now until Oct. 7, the 494th FS will continue to gain all the experience they can in support of TLP 16-3. The multi-lateral training focuses on preparing flight leaders to become coalition air force mission commanders with instruction on tactical composite air operations and opportunities to develop tactical air expertise.
