Why he XLed: While on a 21-day deployment, Clouse supported more than 21,300 sorties with Republic of Korea and United Nations allied forces by establishing a 24/7 communication link. He led a project that upgraded Laughlin’s commercial demarcation router, hardening the base’s secure internet protocol router network. Clouse also restored network capability to more than 10 buildings in less than 24 hours through programming a new $50,000 switch. Lastly, he led a $60,000 software upgrade, providing instant response to network outages, and ensured real-time tracking and mapping to more than 165 devices.
