FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. –The 213th Regional Support Group (RSG), Pennsylvania Army National Guard welcomed two new units here September 1.
The 228th Transportation Battalion (Motor Transport) mission is to provide mission command and supervise its four companies, located throughout the state, conducting transport operations. The 721st Transportation Company (Heavy Equipment Transporter) mission is to provide movement of oversized and overweight cargo using large equipment movers, M1070 Heavy Equipment Transporters.
More than 300 Soldiers will be assigned to the units in a variety of job positions. Currently the units are looking for more members to fill its ranks.
“The majority of the positions in these units are truck driver positions,” said Maj. Dan Carroll, commander of the 228th Transportation Battalion. “These positions are a great opportunity for current truck drivers interested in a part-time career with benefits.”
The 213th RSG is activating three new transportation units as part of a reorganization this fall. The other unit is the 121st Transportation Company which is located in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to lead these units. Their formation is now part of Pennsylvania National Guard history,” Carroll said.
An activation ceremony will be held for the units later this fall.
Organized in 1849, the 213th RSG has a long history of providing support for both state and active duty operations. The 213th RSG consists of more than twenty specialized units located throughout the commonwealth. The units that represent the 213th RSG include finance, maintenance, personnel, sustainment, transportation, contracting, and public affairs.
