FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, Md. (NNS) -- Sailors and civilians assigned to U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. 10th Fleet (FCC/C10F) attended a cake cutting ceremony to commemorate the Navy’s 241st birthday Oct. 13.
Capt. James Mills, FCC/C10F chief of staff, opened the ceremony remarking on the long tradition of Navy innovation, from nuclear power to the work done in the information warfare community.
The celebration included the tradition of having Capt. Clarence Franklin, the oldest Sailor present at the ceremony, and Seaman Derek Henry, the youngest Sailor present cut the cake.
The event was coordinated by the command’s Heritage Committee.
“Like those who have gone before us, it is important to impart the history of our organization into those who come after us,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Carmeca Howard the event’s lead organizer. “The celebration allows time for reflection and reiteration of the Navy's current mission.”
U.S. Fleet Cyber Command serves as the Navy component command to U.S. Strategic Command and U.S. Cyber Command, and the Navy's Service Cryptologic Component commander under the National Security Agency/Central Security Service. Fleet Cyber Command also reports directly to the Chief of Naval Operations as an echelon II command.
U.S. 10th Fleet is the operational arm of Fleet Cyber Command and executes its mission through a task force structure.
