“We are an outpatient clinic with newly installed direct capture x-ray rooms, ultrasound equipment, computed tomography machine and a bone densitometry unit,” said Airman 1st Class Cameron Brennan, 56th MDSS diagnostic imaging technician. “Upgrading the clinic’s equipment will increase efficiency and help reduce shortfalls in patient care.”
Timing and efficiency have become the center of focus as the department adapts to the new changes.
“While the old equipment was being taken out, new equipment was installed,” Brennan said. “During that time frame patients were seen less, but once radiology is brought up to its new standard, this upgraded diagnostic equipment will help reduce the time in between each appointment.”
New pieces of equipment have already been installed into the radiology department such as their special computed tomography scanner.
"This model of CT scanner is a first in the Department of Defense and is capable of handling any CT procedure in the health care network,” said Master Sgt. Edward Parker, 56th MDSS radio diagnostic imaging flight chief. "What makes this CT scanner special is its quick scan time, and reduction of radiation doses. The advance features allows imaging studies that are not routinely done in a medical clinic setting.”
With all these changes, Luke’s Thunderbolts can expect to be seen more frequently and receive an addition in the services provided.
