Senior Master Sgt. Henry Gillam

Henry Clay Gillam Jr. of Allendale, S.C., enlisted in the Air Force in 1968.He served eight years on active duty as a hospital administrator before transitioning to the Air National Guard where he served an additional 13 years. He retired in 1990. During his time in the service, he was stationed at England Air Force Base, La.; Da Nang Air Base, Vietnam; Tyndall AFB, Fla.; and the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. Gilliam also enjoyed a successful civilian career as the senior vice president of sales in the commercial floorcovering industry whileliving in Chicago. He retired from his civilian job in 2012 and is now back in South Carolina where he leads a busy life, volunteering at the Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Charleston, S.C., as well as serving as the post commander at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3137, Isle of Palms, S.C.
