NATO’s Resolute Support, USFOR-A senior enlisted leader visits 1CD RSSB

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan— Command Sgt. Maj. David M. Clark, Senior Enlisted Leader for NATO’s Resolute Support (RS), U.S. Forces-Afghanistan (USFOR-A) visited 1st Cavalry Division Resolute Support Sustainment Brigade (1CD RSSB) at Bagram Airfield, Nov.5. For Clark, it was his first opportunity to visit 1CD RSSB since becoming the senior enlisted leader for RS.

Although time was limited during his visit, every moment was filled with an opportunity to engage Soldiers. He took the time to indulge in conversations with the staff sections to get to know the Soldiers and asked them about their success and challenges during the deployment.

“To have the senior enlisted leader of RS visit Resolute Support Sustainment Brigade was exciting, especially since we had the opportunity to let him know who we are and how we contribute to the RS mission,” said SFC Roy Silva, Operations NCOIC. “For him to take time out of his schedule to visit was remarkable.”

Clark was also enlightened on the roles of the 204th Engineer Detachment (EN. DET.), Construction Management Team (CMT), attached to 1CD RSSB and personnel from the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA).

After spending the morning getting to know the Wagonmaster Soldiers, Clark had lunch with Command Sgt. Maj. Jill L. Crosby, 1CD RSSB, command sergeant major and senior staff at Koele dining facility, where Crosby briefed Clark on 1CD RSSB operations.

“I wanted to ensure that Clark received a holistic view of the capabilities of 1CD RSSB,” said Crosby. “I wanted him to see the bigger picture of who we are and what we do as a Sustainment Brigade.”

Crosby said it was a great opportunity to reinforce Clark’s understanding of the 1CD RSSB, its mission and its capabilities in supporting RS, she concluded.

“Today I visited Task Force Wagonmaster,” said Clark. “They are complete and total professionals. They are the epitome of what right looks like.” The Wagonmasters provided me with great insight on sustainment and what they do, added Clark.

Before leaving, Clark presented five Wagonmaster Soldiers with a coin and thanked them for their service and for what they all contribute to the RS mission.
