117th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment (Hawaii)

“I had a lot of mentors and leaders that I served with over the years

that really meant a lot to me,” said Wingad. “Everybody here is treated

with dignity and respect, everybody helps each other out, and I met some

really great friends that will always have my back,” said Wingad,

reflecting on his 20 years in the Hawaii Army National Guard.

Organizations like the Hawaii Army National Guard benefit from

leadership changes and the introduction of new ideas, said Wingad.

“Giving up responsibility of an organization is always hard,” said

Wingad, “But the organization needs change, this is part of being a leader

    in the military.”

As the incoming senior enlisted advisor to Brig. Gen. Keith Y.

Tamashiro, commander of the Hawaii Army National Guard, Ventura

plans to ensure that Soldiers are well taken care of by the National Guard

    leadership.

“We should be taking care of Soldiers,” said Ventura. “I want all of

the leadership doing the same thing.”

As the outgoing senior enlisted Soldier of the Hawaii Army National

Guard, Wingad wanted to remind the noncommissioned officers of the

organization that the welfare of individual troops starts with senior

leaders and ends with individual Soldiers.

“If you’re doing something, then your Soldiers should be doing the

same,” said Wingad. “If you ever have that not-so- great feeling in your

stomach, that’s probably the wrong thing to do, always lead by example.”
