    63rd Readiness Division

FORT HOOD, Texas – The 3rd Main Command Post-Operational Detachment was formally activated during a ceremony at III Corps Headquarters, Fort Hood, Texas, Nov. 18.

The 3rd MCP-OD is the first Army Reserve unit designed to provide direct support to the staff at III Corps Headquarters and falls under the 63rd Regional Support Command’s seven-state area of responsibility.

The MCP-OD’s mission is to provide expansibility for the III Corps Headquarters through augmentation, said Lt. Col. Barrett Lynch, commander, 3rd MCP-OD.

“We’re doing this with a vast array of military occupational specialties. Each one of the MCP-OD Soldiers brings a skill set and talents,” Lynch explained. “It’s paramount we come in prepared and fully mission capable to support the III Corps mission.”

Lynch said the timeline to establish the MCP-OD has been short but is coming together.

“Our manning is essential and we’re getting the word out there to fill our ranks,” Lynch said. “I anticipate by January we should be at 70 percent of the 75 Soldier authorization.”

The MCP-OD requires a lot more time and commitment than a traditional reserve unit, he continued.

“Getting that time and commitment from their families and employers makes it an honor to serve alongside Soldiers who’re willing to make the sacrifice,” Lynch said.

Although they’re a long way from being complete, Lynch said the assistance from III Corps and the 63rd RSC has helped immensely, especially with funding and subject matter experts.

“This organization is the first of its kind and is unique to the Army Reserve,” Lynch said. “It’s a chance for us all to join together and accomplish the mission.

The success of the 3rd MCP-OD is viewed at the highest priority level and will be closely reviewed as other similar organizations from the 81st, 88th and 99th Regional Support Commands are stood up to provide direct staff support to Corps to follow, Lynch said.

This will increase the ability for execution of missions, operations and support for forward deployed Soldiers, he said.
