FORWARD OPERATING BASE HAMMER, Iraq – Iraqi security force commanders and leaders of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, gathered at the Joint Security Station in Narhwan to discuss security in Mada'in Qada, July 16.

The leaders discussed recent enemy events and security missions, including numerous cache finds and the capture of high-value insurgents. They also spoke about progress still to be made.

"Everyone understands that there are still bad people out there," said Col. Pat White, of Apple Valley, Calif., commander of the 2nd BCT, 1st Armd. Div. "The ISF and people of the Mada'in Qada are ready to confront those people."

The leaders addressed the harassment of local informants, an issue that they are working diligently to stop.

"We must stress that no one who comes forward with information should be considered a traitor by the Iraqi people," said Brig. Gen. Abdullah, commander of the 35th Brigade, 9th Iraqi Army Division.

The meeting gauged the total progress in the area and the ISF's continuing efforts to further improve the Mada'in Qada.

"The picture that we are portraying shows the enemy that we are in charge," said Mushen Nasser, the mayor of the Mada'in Qada. "We must continue to push forward to success."
