The holidays are upon us, and for many single or unaccompanied service members, it may mean fewer opportunities to enjoy the holidays while away from friends and family. To help bring a little holiday joy to those service members, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling is hosting the annual JBAB Cookie Caper cookie drive.
According to 579th Medical Group 1st Sergeant Air Force Master Sgt. Justin Worley the treats will provide single and unaccompanied service members who stay in the JBAB barracks a great taste of the holidays.
“We don’t know what the service member’s situation is during the holidays on whether or not they’ll be able to get back and see family or not, so this lets our unaccompanied members know that the base is thinking about them and we are here to support them during the holidays.”
Worley said the cookie drive is open to anyone who is willing to bake some of their favorite recipe treats. He did add that the donated cookies will need to be donated in a disposable container, since returns of reusable containers can’t be guaranteed.
“If you want to provide cookies, treats, or brownies, for example, you can bring them to a drop off point Monday, Dec. 12 at the Bolling Club on JBAB,” he said. “We’re beginning the collections at 6 a.m. that morning as well as Tuesday, Dec. 13.”
Worley said volunteer opportunities are still available with treat collections and bag assemblies. Anyone looking for more information about volunteering or the cookie drive can call 202-404-3618 or 202-685-0878.
