Mayor Jim Langfelder, Maj. Gen. Richard J. Hayes Jr., the Adjutant General of the Illinois National Guard and Springfield-area choirs joined Soldiers at the Illinois State Military Museum in Springfield, Illinois, Dec. 10 to celebrate the 130th anniversary of Camp Lincoln and the 380th National Guard Birthday.
After the cake cutting ceremony, people enjoyed the “Christmas at the Front” event. “Christmas at the Front” is an annual event meant to educate visitors on how Soldiers celebrated Christmas during four conflicts: Revolutionary War, Civil War, World War I and World War II.
Living Historians told stories and Dr. Chris McDonald, Lincoln Land Community College professor, provided a short talk on Soldier’s Christmas letters.
