PATTAYA, Thailand (NNS) – Sailors with the Golden Swordsmen of Patrol Squadron (VP) 47 visited the Pattaya Orphanage in Pattaya, Thailand, for a community relations (COMREL) project Dec. 9.
20 Sailors with VP-47 toured the facilities at the Pattaya Orphanage and had the opportunity to interact and play games with toddlers in the orphanage nursery.
“Playing with the children was an amazing experience,” said Lt. j.g. Zachary Alcairo. “Watching their faces light up when we came in was truly unforgettable.”
VP-47 Sailors donated much needed supplies to the orphanage to include, diapers, formula, and food, in addition to playing games with the children. The Pattaya Orphanage relies on such donations in order to support over 100 disadvantaged children in the Pattaya area.
“Not only was this visit fun for everyone involved, it was an excellent opportunity to be great ambassadors,” said Lt. Jack Gutschlag. “It felt great to be able to give back to those less fortunate than ourselves.”
This is the Golden Swordsmen’s last deployment with the P-3C aircraft. VP-47 is the second of three Hawaii-based squadrons to make the move to Whidbey Island and transition to the P-8A.
VP-47 is currently deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet Area of Responsibility (AOR) at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan, and to the U.S. 4th Fleet AOR at Comalapa, El Salvador.
