PENSACOLA, Fla. – Fourteen staff members assigned to the Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) wrapped up a five-day training session to improve their course development and revision skills, Feb. 3.
CIWT’s course managers, along with staff from Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Detachment Whiting Field, learned about the Naval Education and Training Command’s (NETC) end-to-end (E2E) process. Many of the students already had a working knowledge of the process and some experience with NETC’s toolsets.
“NETC is committed to supporting the fleet with training that is provided at the right time in a Sailor's career to optimize training resources and support the fleet's mission,” said Kevin Ramey, the E2E course manager. “This course serves as a walk-through of the E2E process, allowing students to gain hands-on experience with building effective course curricula.”
Each day, the students completed steps in the E2E process, which ensures training meets fleet requirements and Ready, Relevant Learning standards. They worked throughout the week in small groups to construct simulated sections or components of the process. They reviewed one another’s work to objectively analyze whether or not the course met NETC criteria.
The process involves a Content Planning Module and a Learning Object Module. It starts with a Job Duty Task Analysis, which captures all data related to a rating skill, essentially defining the work. The approved data leads to building learning objectives and an assessment strategy, which should drive the requirements for the training. A Front End Analysis determines the most effective delivery strategies followed by designing the training, which is then developed and implemented.
Senior Chief Information Systems Technician (IT) Patrick Miller, who serves as training manager for the Network Systems Vulnerability Technician and Information Systems Security Manager courses, as well as the IT “A” school, was among the CIWT participants in the E2E course.
“The E2E course is a great way to understand the processes that are put in place to standardize curriculum development throughout the Navy,” said Miller. “Having the opportunity to attend this course ensures CIWT is able to provide the best training possible for the future of the information warfare community.”
Center for Information Warfare Training delivers trained information warfare professionals to the Navy and joint services, enabling optimal performance of information warfare across the full spectrum of military operations.
