LEBANON, Pa. - Soldiers from the 628th Financial Management Support Detachment, 728th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 213th Regional Support Group, Pennsylvania Army National Guard, held a send-off ceremony before deploying to locations in Iraq and Kuwait Feb. 4, at the Lebanon Readiness Center here.

Col. Laura McHugh, 213th Regional Support Group commander, presided over the ceremony with Command Sgt. Maj. Andrew K. Campbell and Lt. Col. Aaron Keirn, 728th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion commander.

“It was a successful ceremony with a huge turnout,” said 1st Lt. Eric Nelson, commander of the 628th Financial Management Support Detachment. "It was very nice as family members all expressed their gratitude for what we are doing; we are thankful that they are here,” he continued.

The unit’s mission is to provide pay support and disbursements to Soldiers deployed to Kuwait and Iraq.

It is critical that Soldiers overseas are properly compensated and all pay issues are resolved so they can focus on the mission, said Nelson.

Spc. David Crone, from Danville, Pennsylvania is a financial management technician with the 628th Financial Management Support Detachment.

Crone said he is excited about his first deployment as it will provide him with real-world experience that he can apply when attending college. He plans to attend Bloomsburg University and major in finance and economics upon returning from deployment, he added.

Crone’s parents, Traci Crone and Stanley Crone, Jr. from Danville, Pennsylvania came to bid him farewell and participate in the send-off ceremony.

“It will be hard as a mom but I’m very excited for him. I get to experience all the travel and experiences that he does,” said Traci Crone.
