The Camp Pendleton Historical Society hosted its inaugural awards dinner at the Pacific Views Event Center, Feb. 11, 2017. This year’s ceremony paid special note to the 75th Anniversary of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
"Camp Pendleton is a historic and current treasure,” said Richard B. Rothwell, Marine Corps Colonel(ret.), President, Camp Pendleton Historical Society. “I think when most people see or read the words ‘Camp Pendleton’ they automatically think of U.S. Marines and that’s understandable since the Marine Corps has been here for a long time. From a more distant perspective, however, the Marine Corps just forms the latest chapter in the long history of this land. ”
Rocky Chavez, California Assemblyman, presented a State Assembly proclamation to Brig. Gen. Kevin J. Killea, Commanding General, Marine Corps Installations – West, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, recognizing the base’s 75th Anniversary during the ceremony.
The proclamation declared: “Camp Pendleton, California has been a critical training base for the United States Marines for 75 years, and upon the anniversary of its three quarters of a century of service, it is deserving of the highest commendations and the heartiest congratulations.”
The ceremony also included a preview of Robert Kline’s upcoming documentary “Camp Pendleton at 75.” Kline is known for his work as a producer and in creating documentaries.
“The story of Pendleton, the story of this land, the story of the Marine Corps, is an American journey,” said Kline.
