Over time, the inevitable wear and tear on bachelor enlisted quarters can add up to an expensive bill for units. The Tiger Team is one of the ways 7th Marine Regiment is saving money and ensuring the barracks are in top condition for Marines when they return from deployment.
Composed of Marines with the Remain Behind Element, Tiger Team was created to complete simple repairs and replace missing room items while Marines are deployed. When the Marines return, the team will have fixed any discrepancies in their rooms with help from the Combat Center’s Public Works Division.
“We begin by going room to room and establishing the problems with each room, such as lights being out and holes in the walls,” said Cpl. Brandon Hamburg, rifleman, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment. “When Marines come back from deployment they will have no issues so they don’t have to worry and focus on their training.”
According to Staff Sgt. Benjamin Crain, residential facilities chief, 7th Marine Regiment, the team has reduced spending on repairs to barracks to one tenth the cost this quarter.
“Everyone is complimenting Tiger Team’s ability and what they’ve been able to do regarding saving money on damage to the buildings,” Crain said. “They are there to help and repair what they can to take care of the Marines the best we can.”
