HOUSTON — A Coast Guard Station Galveston boat crew rescued two people after investigating smoke in the Houston Ship Channel off Kemah Saturday afternoon.
At about 12:45 p.m., the boat crew located the burning boat and rescued the two aboard before the boat became engulfed in flames near Light 63.
A Port of Houston fire boat from Barbour’s Cut responded as well as the Harris County Sheriff’s Department.
The Coast Guard is maintaining a safety zone in the area until it is clear. Sea Tow is working to salvage the sunken boat out of the ship channel.
