PENSACOLA, Fla. – Information Warfare Training Command (IWTC) Corry Station held a ceremony for two graduating classes at the Naval Air Station Pensacola Corry Station chapel, March 1.
The graduating classes included 15 students from the Information Professional (IP) Basic Course and 14 students from the Joint Cyber Analysis Course (JCAC).
The graduating IP Basic Course students were the last to attend the class at IWTC Corry Station. The course has been moved to IWTC Virginia Beach, Virginia, in part to leverage the proximity of IP and information warfare (IW) community operational commands to the training command. The course has also been expanded from eight weeks at Corry Station to 20 weeks to meet the evolving demands of communications and network technologies.
“The team at IWTC Corry Station did an outstanding job training many of our IP officers who are now in our most vital roles in the fleet,” said Lt. Michael Baucum, a Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) program manager for the IP Basic Course. “We took many of the lessons learned and positive practices of the IP Basic Course at Corry Station and implemented them in the new course in Virginia Beach. The IP community is in deep gratitude to the instructors who taught the course at Corry Station, for providing outstanding IP officers throughout the course’s time there.”
The IP Basic Course provides new IP officers with a fundamental knowledge of the IP community and the IP's role within the IW mission. While introducing the values which guide the IP community, the course gives students a foundation of skills which will enable them to develop, communicate, and promote innovative solutions.
JCAC trains enlisted personnel from all services in the skills and knowledge required to perform technical network analysis in cyberspace operations.
“I’m grateful I had the opportunity to come to this course and improve my skills and knowledge as a cyber analyst,” said Cryptologic Technician (Networks) Christopher Hall, the JCAC honor graduate, who has orders to Navy Information Operations Command Fort Devens, Massachusetts. “JCAC is a very difficult course, but it definitely helps prepare us to go out to the fleet and be the best information warriors we can be.”
Capt. Edward Kruk, CIWT executive officer and guest speaker for the ceremony, spoke of the importance of the graduates’ roles in supporting the IW mission.
“You are now on the verge of taking your place in a mission that is dynamic, changing at an exponential pace, demanding and critical to the fleet,” said Kruk. “Out there at the tip of the sword, you’ll be providing a critical communications path that allows our Navy to fight and win. Our community needs you to be innovative, not only to support today’s Navy but for tomorrow’s as well. Don’t underestimate the value of the skills that you bring to the team.”
Operations for these graduates could include working on networks; leading personnel who are managing the Navy's networks; managing the nation’s or the Navy's Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) systems; and conducting cyber operations.
IWTC Corry Station, as part of CIWT, provides a continuum of training to Navy and joint service personnel that prepares them to conduct information warfare across the full spectrum of military operations.
