The 786th Force Support Squadron’s Rheinland Dining Facility, Lindberghof Dining Facility and the Jawbone Flight Kitchen were nominated to be evaluated for the 61st Annual Hennessy Trophy Awards Program on Ramstein Air Base, Germany, Feb. 21, 2017.
The nomination, in recognition of the outstanding work done at these three food service operations, is part of a program that promotes excellence in customer service and meal quality, inspires morale, and improves management concepts and practices.
The program is named after John Lawrence Hennessy, a man recognized by U.S. Presidents as a leader in his field. Thought to be one of the nation’s most capable hotel and restaurant executives, Hennessy was appointed as chairman of the War Food Committee to develop food service systems capable of sustaining millions of military personnel involved in the war effort in 1943.
“It’s an honor to be nominated and have the chance to show what a great team we have here,” said Tech. Sgt. Joshua Alvarez, 786th FSS facility manager.
In 2016, the 786th FSS demonstrated its versatility by supporting the ordered departure of all Department of Defense dependents from Turkey—about 750—with less than 72 hours’ notice for preparation.
Last year also saw the squadron’s support to more than 1,900 professional military education students and 1,200 Airmen stationed here. The Jawbone Flight Kitchen supported more than 4,000 sorties and 500 medical evacuation flights.
Between the three facilities, more than 290,000 meals were served locally throughout the year.
The 786th FSS also hosted the Food Service Shift Leader Course this past fall, training 13 Airmen and preparing them to lead their peers while saving Air Force travel funds.
This is the third year that the 786th FSS has been nominated for the Hennessy award.
To be nominated for this prestigious award is a testament to how the 786th FSS’s kitchen operations and overall readiness is recognized as one of the best around, said Airman 1st Class Taylor Messer, 786th FSS food service apprentice.
“It was great to see the preparation for evaluation, and it made us grow closer as a team,” said Taylor.
Results for the 61st Annual Hennessy Trophy Awards Program are expected to be announced in April 2017.
